Sleeping Dragon

A dragon (Lophognathus sp.) rests on a thin branch on a cloudy night, so dark that when I turned off my head torch the dragon disappeared into the complete blackness. Lophognathus are pale to dark brown during the day and transition into having a light gold hue with red splotches on the abdomen at night, retaining the contrasting thick white stripe across the head and upper abdomen. However, I’ve also found sleeping individuals that are black and chocolate brown.

Photographed in situ [1]
