Metacanthops, a new genus of mantis in the family Acanthopidae, has recently been described from the Brazilian Amazon. Congratulations to Antonio Agudelo and the authors for their work!! The female specimen was collected two years ago during the workshop on Neotropical Mantodea near Manaus, Brazil. Special shoutout to Leo Lanna and João Felipe Herculano who spotted her in the forest. She was cryptic and lichenous, resembling a short stump of a twig— such an exciting find for us all!
