A female shining flycatcher (Myiagra alecto) sits atop her nest in the mangrove forests of the Northern Territory. Both sexes of this specieparticipate in nest-building and feeding of the young, but the male wasn’t around at this time. In contrast to the lightly colored females, males are uniformly dark with an iridescent blue tint.

Photographed in situ [1]
