Just a glimpse into the eye of a true dragon… which may or may not be able to breath fire. With every turn of my head, the lizard would open its mouth and deploy its frill at me. At times it whipped its tail violently, one time hitting me in the face, and care must be taken with its claws!
This male was massive, with a 25.5 cm SVL (snout-vent length), a 50 cm tail that was incomplete, and the following head dimensions: 8.9 cm length, 5.2 cm width, and 4.4 cm height. Photos and footage of the frilly’s deimatic display to come! Found basking along the road.
Handled with appropriate permits for scientific study; photographed after capture [5]
