Will the rains ever stop? Probably not since this is monsoon season. This lone black kite (Milvus migrans) was perched on a burnt and blackened eucalypt against the backdrop of a uniform cloudy sky. It almost had a stern expression, gazing over the patch of forest where it regularly joins hundreds of other black kites and whistling kites to hunt fleeing insects during bushfires. I took this photo during a light drizzle in between bouts of heavy rains — it has been going for a day and a half practically nonstop. The frogs are already rejoicing outside, the insects should be stirring, and the frillies may finally be able to satisfy their appetites once a clear day comes.
