Jabiru near Adelaide River

Note: increased contrast with road in post-processing to “save” the image from distracting chromatic aberration. Usually I minimally edit my photos to remain true to the original scene. However, I thought this one was worth sharing even with the alteration. Photographed in situ [1]

Lots of cool animals on the road tonight. Southern bobook, barking and barn owls (one catching a melomys), snake-necked turtle, death adder, black-headed python, and a five-foot tall Jabiru (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus). All before a heavy storm blew in at midnight for March 1st. Doesn’t get much more Top End than that… well other than the salties way off in the floodplains.
