Seals and Sea Lions in Monterey Bay

Two harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) basking in the afternoon sun in Monterey Bay along with some cormorants

While we were enjoying some great seafood a California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) swam close to the dock around some pacific sea nettles (Chrysaora fuscescens). Though common, this was my first time seeing a sea lion in the wild. Unlike seals, sea lions can walk on all fours and seem much more coordinating when clambering up rocks.
