Strawberry Poison Frog

Photographed in situ [1]

A young strawberry poison frog (Oophaga pumilio) from the Caribbean lowlands in Costa Rica. These cute and plump little gems are always on the hop and have impressive arboreal capabilities. I was shocked to first observe one hop up a completely vertical tree, over two meters high without much difficulty at all. I don’t have much time to write up a post about them… but I will be traveling to Kenya in a few days — it will be my first time in Africa!
