Dahl’s frog (Litoria dahlii) is a fully aquatic species. With strong webbed hind feet and a torpedo-like body shape, they are adept at swimming and diving underneath the water’s surface. Around the Adelaide River floodplains near Fogg Dam, Dahl’s frogs are generally bright green and mottled brown —probably the most eye-catching of the Litoria squad. This species is distributed across the far north in the Northern Territory and relatively smaller regions in Queensland and Western Australia. They are commonly spotted around permanent bodies of water and occupy seasonally wet habitats. A month or so after the monsoon rains began I was pleased to see Dahl’s frogs invading the savannah woodlands from the wetlands.
